Since Sofia is a child artist, her Mother, who has spent two years in Pakistani media working with Talent in Television, and has arts management experience, is handling her website, contract, pricing, production and processes.
The child’s part is to paint, following her own interests and inspirations.
The Mother has curated an environment for art, and arranges education, materials, and often guides the young artist-in-making verbally and otherwise. The two watch several arts & business shows, such as Shark Tank USA, together so the budding artist can learn about business, branding, selling, pitching, rights, royalties, patents and other matters.
Sofia has access to numerous courses through online education from leading global online education providers, and the parent looks forward to introducing mentors at the right time.
The art is self-led, often done at own pace, while the Mother is gently introducing the concepts of archiving, discipline, and merging theory with practice. Since Art is a costly pursuit, and the family is conscious about environmental footprint, ethics, and other such matters, these concepts are introduced early so the art practice can grow in a responsible and socially conscious manner.
The parent encourages the child to study various disciplines as well as rotate interests so that Art does not become a laborious chore or unhealthy obsession. The child also knows that she has the right to change her interests or pursue other subjects and interests growing up. To keep options open, other career options are shared and skills introduced.
We also talk about art as business, art as service, and other forms of application of art. We study artists of various talents, skills, and cultures — Eastern to Western. Aesthetics of various cultures and their particularities are learned in the household, so we have a global view.
We adjust and amend our practice as we go, paying heed to various concerns while staying mindful of our human limitations on this journey. ♥️
